The attention of NSUK Guide Officials have been drawn on the baseless and unreliable rumors flooding the social media that Nasarawa State University will be going on an indefinite strike due to unpaid funds from the state government for 5 years which is typically fake and misleading...

And I quote:...

"From the office of the V.C nsuk

This is to notify all awaiting and returning students that the school is going on an indefinite strike due to school revenue that is not being paid by the government for over five years or so.
So the school is not resuming on the supposed date. Student are advice to stay alert through the school Internet portal for any news

                   Signed
      Administrative board''
=======================

Firstly, the aforementioned statement is unofficial and a concocted story published by some elements to cause confusion..

Secondly, if its true, such an action is likely to be taken by the University's Union body and not from the office of the Vice Chancellor.

Thirdly, NSUKGuide inquired from the office of the Vice Chancellor; Information and Protocol Unit about the rumors and the reply we got from the IPO is "It is Unrealistic''.

Conclusively, NSUK Resumption date as some students are still doubting whether its on the 4th or 14th of October is still officially clear, however its just a one week difference as such it shouldn't be a serious contention. But there's no doubt the next academic session commence by October 2018.

Therefore, neglect any rumor and doubt and start preparing for school..

NSUK Guide Officials wishes you safe trip back to school for a new session filled with lots of academic activities and struggles..

Breaking: NLC Suspends Strike

nsukguide.com

The Nigrerian Labour Congress has suspended its ongoing strike it commenced on September 26.

This was announced by the  National President of the NLC, Ayuba Wabba,  at a press conference on Sunday 30th September, in Abuja.

“The suspension takes effect from today Sunday,” he said.

Workers are therefore expected to resume duties on Tuesday as Monday has been declared a public holiday by the federal government to mark the October 1st Independence Day.

The workers are demanding a new minimum wage of about N50,000 instead of the current national minimum wage of N18,000.

According to the NLC president, Ayuba Wabba, he said the union was open to dialogue on the strike.

“Our demand is that the tripartite negotiating council should be called back to conclude its assignment on minimum wage.” Mr Wabba said.

Meanwhile, the minister of labour and employment, Chris Ngige, has assured the unions that the tripartite committee will reconvene to complete its negotiation.

Union shutdown Campus as ASUU joins NLC Strike in NSUK

Union shutdown Campus as ASUU joins NLC Strike in NSUK

By Simon Markus Yila

Academic activities were today, Friday 28th September disrupted at the Nasarawa State University, Keffi when the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), of the institution joined the strike declared by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).

NSUK Guide correspondent who visited the university today observed that students and lecturers who had lectures were asked to leave their lecture venues. Administrative offices were not spared as most members who had come to work were directed to return home after the union received directive on Wednesday night to intimate members on compliance to join the strike declared by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).

Other universities who have joined the strike action include OSUN State University and the University of Ibadan among others.

The University of Ibadan Chairman of ASUU, Dr. Deji Omole while speaking said, “ASUU is an affiliate of NLC and the national leadership of the Union attended the NEC meeting of NLC where the decision to embark on the ongoing warning strike was taken.

“Members of ASUU are therefore directed to join the strike action declared by NLC as from today Thursday, 27 September 2018.

“With this decision to join the NLC declared warning strike to press for the conclusion of negotiation on minimum wage, We should not allow the government to always walk away from concluding negotiations with the organized labour Unions as this also has implications for the renegotiation of ASUU/FGN agreement”. He added.

The Nasarawa State University had been on break since July and were set to resume a new academic session in October 4th, 2018. However, the Long Vacation Training program and Part Time Students who are currently on session have been ordered by the union to vacate campus as stated earlier.

ASUU May Join NLC Strike

ASUU May Join NLC Strike
There are indications that the Academic Staff Union of Universities may join the Nigeria Labour Congress in the ongoing industrial action.

This was made known by the  Owerri Zonal Coordinator of ASUU, Prof Uzo Onyebinama, at a  press conference at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra  State.

He revealed that, “You will recall that the 2009 FGN — ASUU Agreement made provision for the re-negotiation of the Agreement every three (3) years,

He added that “the renegotiation exercise has broken down since May 2018 (after 14 months), due largely to the deliberate tactics adopted by the leader of the Government Team, Dr. Wale Babalakin, to scuttle the renegotiation, by jettisoning the principle of collective bargaining and the gains of previous agreements, memorandum of understanding  and memorandum of action".

“In addition, the government team insisted that education ought to be funded from ‘diverse sources’ and consequently proposed the establishment of an Education Bank and a Students’ Loan Scheme.”

The Union urged the Federal Government to, as a matter of urgency, provide a platform for the leadership of ASUU to engage State Governors on  issues of  proliferation of universities, underfunding of state universities, undue interference in the administration of state universities, and the non-implementation of various components of the 2009 Agreement in many state universities.

The union said it would be left with no other choice than to embark on an industrial action if the contentious issues were not resolved.

He further debunked that the strikes were not sponsored by the opposition parties, and stated the reason of ASUU strike was as a result of the Federal Government’s inability to fulfill the 2009 agreement with the union on the welfare of its members.
