Tonto Dikeh, NAPTIP Take Campaign Against Human Trafficking To University Of Abuja

Nollywood actress, Tonto Dikeh, and the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP, yesterday took the campaign against human trafficking to students of the University of Abuja.

The campaign which was well-attended by several other celebrities aimed at increasing the conversation around the menace especially among students of the institution.
Speaking to newsmen on the sidelines of the campaign, the Director-General of NAPTIP, Julie Donli-Okah, said the event created an opportunity for the agency to engage directly with the undergraduates on the issue of trafficking in persons.

According to her, a lot of youths have fallen victims in the past to human traffickers who exploited their ignorance on the issue.
Donli-Okah, represented by the Director Public Education, Mr Arinze Orakwue, said: “The Tonto Dikeh Foundation has ushered a very important week for the commemoration of the 2018 World Day Against Trafficking in Persons. The actress has provided platform for us to speak to one of the largest groups we are targeting.
“Basically, the aim of the campaign is to raise voices and increase the conversation around  human trafficking which is a clear and present danger affecting our best and brightest minds, the youths.

“The plan we have is to continue to push the frontiers of the conversation around human trafficking because, till today, a lot of youths are acting out of ignorance. That’s why we are asking the whole society to get involved in this matter.”
In her remarks, Tonto Dikeh explained that she chose, as NAPTIP’s national ambassador, to focus her energy on undergraduates because it has been observed that most victims were unemployed fresh graduates who were enticed with prospects of securing high-paying jobs overseas.

She said: “We chose to focus on the undergraduates because human traffickers exploit the unemployment situation in the country to lure youths who are fresh out of school with job offers overseas.
“So, we have to educate them even before they leave school and also tell them about the pains, the dangers and the negative effects of human trafficking on our society and country at large. Some people are ignorant and that’s why they were trafficked in the first place.

“We are also working closely with the student unions to set-up a NAPTIP club on campus to ensure that the campaign is sustained beyond this event.
“We want to drive the message against human trafficking to the streets, homes, communities as well as nooks and cranny of Nigeria.”
Other celebrities who accompanied the popular actress to the campus campaign include: Toyin Abraham, Bobrisky, Styl Plus, Halima Abubakar among others.

I welcome you members of the press to this August interactive session on the state of security in our country and our contribution to the efforts of well-meaning stakeholders to proffer solutions to the current challenges.

We have followed the current security situation in the country,  especially in parts of the middle belt region, leading to the death of a number of our compatriots. We have further observed with dismay the attempts by some vested interests to politicise what ordinarily ought to be a national disaster on the singular note that they are in search of cheap political points.

We express our heartfelt sympathies for those who have lost their loved ones and urge all Nigerians to embrace the peaceful coexistence that has been the hallmark of our country over the years. We assure them, that the government of the day is working assiduously to ensure that these killings are brought to an end and urge the people to cooperate with the security agencies to bring lasting peace to troubled spots.

While anger at this time may be understandable,  we must not allow emotions to becloud our sense of judgement. The people of these areas which have been affected by the onslaught of enemies of our national unity must not allow themselves to be used by opportunists and sponsors of these senseless killings to achieve their selfish aims that have nothing to do with the long-suffering people of Nigeria.

We have observed the attempts to bring the person of IGP Ibrahim Kpotum Idris into these killings to use it to further their opposition of the good works being done by the IGP and his team. The smashing of the notorious kidnapping gang of Evans and others in his gang wouldn’t have been possible had the IGP not been hands-on in the discharge of his primary duty of protecting lives and property of Nigerians.
While IGP Idris' calls for expanding and reforming the police force have been met with deafening  silence, we find it curious that a tragedy of these scale would be used to further deride the work of the police force and undermine it’s genuine efforts to address the current challenges.

It is on record that arrests have been made in connection with the recent incidents in Plateau state by the Joint task force in collaboration with the police, and we urge all the agencies involved to speed up investigation and action on the matter to bring closure to the people.

We as students, having been beneficiaries of the prompt attention given to security issues on our campuses by the current leadership of the Police, pass an unwavering and unalloyed vote of confidence on the leadership of IGP ibrahim Kpotum Idris,  and urge the fine officers under him not to allow the present challenges to deter them from carrying out their duties of building a 21st century police force capable of handling the security problems of Nigeria. The leadership and membership of the Concerned Nigerian Students will not relent in demanding for a better Nigeria and working assiduously with all who support our cause and share our vision of a new Nigeria.

We urge the perpetrators of these senseless killings to desist from their selfish and inhumane course,  as the long arm of the law will soon catch up with them.

All politicians should, in the interest of the average Nigerian, support the work of the security agencies and give backing to the IGP’s call for improved funding as well as expansion to provide better equipment and  manpower needs of the force.

We call on the IGP to continue with his onerous task of policing a multidimensional society such as Nigeria and avoid any form of distractions from any quarters whatsoever, as Nigeria is bigger than any sectional or other interests. We call on the presidency to continue to empower the police and sustain the support so far given to the force to deliver on its primary responsibility to the Nigerian masses.
We call on all Nigerians to remain calm and go about their lawful daily activities, while never hesitating to provide useful information to aid investigations and protection of life and property of all Nigerians. Security is everybody’s business and all hands must be on deck to ensure that criminals have no safe spaces to operate within the borders of Nigeria.

Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria!

"Emma2Nice for D.O.S" says Macosa student at different levels.

"Emma2Nice for D.O.S" says Macosa student at different levels.
After the ban was lifted for the 2018 election, many students of the department have and are still declaring their intention and aspirations for prospective position they feel capable of handling.

However, following the controversy concerning Ayuba Emmanuel AKA Emma2Nice's intention of going for any of the position in the department, Nsukguide decided to run a vox-pop on some members of the department at different levels, and here are some of their amazing views and opinion:
"Firstly I want him to be the D. O.S because he is socially alert, he is educationally smart and socially alert
Combination of both makes him perfect for the job of the D.O.S ..
Someone who can bring out crowd at the right time..

Lol. Emma can be very stubborn but I feel with him as DOS he will move the department to where it's supposed to be socially" Uguru Faith (300level)

"I know he deserves it, he's socialized and he'll take our department to the next and highest in all aspects of school and I believe if we all join hands and vote for him he'll surely keep us  on a loud house entertainment he'll show them the meaning of director of socials." Jude Yahaya (200level)

"I want Emma2Nice to be the D. O. S of the Mass communication department because in recent times there haven't been any development in the social life of the students, it has in a way been more like a Locked up situation for the students, No Extra social activities for the department. And i know if Emma2Nice is able to be in that position there are 1000 possibilities of changes and a successful story to the development of the  social life of students because Emma2Nice is Exposed and Is capable i can tell#I SUPPORT
EMMA2NICE#TEAM 2NICE" Flamez (300level)

"Emma2Nice for D.O.S, becuz i know he'll surely hype this department beyond keffi" Lewis Edache (300l)

"I would like him to be the D.O.S becuz He's smart
And he can sacrifice  for others" Mrs Macosa (200level)

Following this massive request and hype, we had to invite him over for an interview, and this was what he had to say "well, I'm overwhelmed with what I've heard so far, and with a lot of Macosites coming to approach me boldly, I just know that letting them down will be last thing on my mind. I want to use this medium to clear the air and disclose my intention of contesting for the fourth coming Macosa election, this Saturday. Thanks Nsukguide".
