Outcome of JAMB 2018 Policy Meeting

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has on Tuesday 26th, June, 2018 held its annual Policy Meeting which we promised to keep you updated on the issues discussed.

As of the cut off mark, there is no new talk on it rather its same with last year's. This means that last years cutoff mark (A minimum of 120 for degree — awarding institutions & minimum 100 for ND, NID & NCE awarding institutions, This therefore implies that institutions are at liberty to fix their cut off marks accordingly when they are to conduct their POST UTME Screening) remains the same... If in future there are changes, we will happily inform you!

However there are some other important updates to note. these include:

1. Candidates with awaiting results must upload their result on JAMB portal before commencement of admission exercise.

2. Any candidate who has chosen an institution as 2nd, 3rd or 4th choice does not need any change of choice or payment to JAMB to be considered for admission during the period of the 2nd choice admission.

3. JAMB and Minister of Education supports the conduct of Post UTME but insist that the form should be sold at #2,000.

4. JAMB has announced that not all courses requires mathematics and English language! This is to say even if you have F9 in the said course, you can still get admission in some departments.

5. JAMB revealed that UNILORIN is the best in giving admission. They admitted students from all states including 112 Foreigners, even from Ghana.....

6. The JAMB Registrar Prof. Oloyede pleaded with Universities to accept Pass in Mathematics for BLIND Students, saying there’s no way a blind student will be able to credit mathematics.

7. Most candidates makes mistakes while registering for the post UTME. The Registrar explaining the reason for this said: “One common reasons for wrong names in UTME is due to candidates using another candidate’s profile or ePin to process registration.

8. Candidates of distance learning, part-time and sandwich will now go through JAMB. This means that they will also buy JAMB form but won't sit for UTME.

9. During the meeting, JAMB Boss insisted that one of the main reason some candidates rewrite UTME is because they do insist on a particular course. If such candidates are given admission into that department, they seem not to be interested...

10. They re-emphasized on the introduction of Integrated Brochure and Syllabus System (IBASS). This platform is to help candidates ease the stress of knowing requirements for a particular course in a particular school.

11. According to JAMB, these two documents are very important for admission processing:
* JAMB Original result (the one with passport)
* JAMB Admission letter.

12. According to JAMB Statistics, see the top ten universities candidates chose while registering for UTME;
1. UNILORIN — 86,401 candidates
2. ABU Zaria — 74,635 candidates
3. UNIBEN — 70,282
4. UNN — 66,486
5. UNILAG — 62,436
6. BUK — 56,251
F. OAU — 48,646
8. UNIZIK — 48,544
9. UI — 47,544
10. UNIIOS — 46,082

This is a brief summary of the outcome of the meeting held today.
